Inscription design for the NJ September 11 Memorial, “Empty Sky,” at Liberty State Park. The goal was to create a legible, lasting system honoring the 744 victims while supporting a quiet, personal visitor experience. Names were carefully arranged across stainless steel panels to maintain a consistent rhythm, ensuring each name remained intact while working within the material constraints. The typeface was chosen for its warmth and subtle irregularity, softening the material and reinforcing a sense of humanity. Visitors are encouraged to create rubbings of the engraved names as a tactile keepsake.
Having experienced this day in New York City firsthand, it was an honor to contribute to the memorial.
